Msgr Modugno served two parishes on Staten Island from 1966 to 1977. There, he joined the Naval Reserve and served at Fort Wadsworth, becoming chaplain of the Marine Corps League. For twelve years, he was Director of the Propagation of the Faith, responsible for missions in the countries of the Third World.
He became Director of the Marquette League for Catholic American Indians, and worked to raise funds to support schools, clinics, and other needs of the missions.
In December 1992, Msgr. Modugno was named pastor of St. Monica’s Church. His experiences went with him, and his desire to involve Saint Monica’s in the needs of a broader community. Msgr. Modugno served the Yorkville Area Council, concerned with a wide range of issues. The Yorkville Catholic Jewish Council provides an Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service and a Model Seder that are celebrated each year with Temple Shaaray Tefila. Monsignor also provided spiritual support to Ronald McDonald House. With 10 other priests, he scheduled Masses to be celebrated each month and the administration of the sacraments.
Now retired, Monsignor is in residence at Epiphany Church, celebrating morning Mass Thursday through Sunday. He was appointed Director Patron of the Arts – Vatican Museums for 3 years and serves on the boards of the Al Smith Foundation, the McCaddin Foundation, and Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
